Bronco Billy’s History

Just after casino gaming became legal in Colorado in 1991, businessman Marc Murphy opened the Bronco Billy’s Hotel and Casino. An enduring part of this former mining town, the casino started small but over the years expanded to include seven brick buildings from the late 19th century. Bronco Billy’s fits right in with the other historic buildings on Cripple Creek’s main thoroughfare E. Bennett Ave., offering a combination of nostalgia on the outside and the excitement of modern casino action inside.

This unique row of buildings houses three casinos, Bronco Billy’s Casino, Billy’s Casino, and the Christmas Casino & Inn At Bronco Billy’s. It also boasts a hotel and multiple restaurants to keep you fed. One of which, The Steakhouse, won Gold in the Best of Teller 2019 reviews for Best Steakhouse and Best Casino Fare. Bronco Billy’s has actually earned its share of recognition, including being voted #1 Best Casino in Colorado by the Colorado Springs Gazette seven years in a row. Their hearty fare of steak, seafood, and pasta never fails to impress guests.

In 2016, Bronco Billy’s was sold to Full House Resorts for $30 million. Murphy stayed on as General Manager until retiring in 2019. This popular spot is slated for a $70 million expansion completed in two phases.

Currently, the Hotel and Casino only has enough rooms for about 15% of their visitors, which means most play a few hours and leave the city afterwards. By adding a larger hotel with modern amenities, Bronco Billy’s hopes to retain guests and encourage spending at other retailers in town. The parking garage is expected to be completed first before work is begun on a new hotel.
